The Academy of Innovative Research, Science & Technological Development (AcIRSTD) operates through a structured set of schemes designed to promote scientific excellence, advice governments, and foster innovation. The AcIRSTD serves as independent, non-political, not-for-profit, or government-affiliated institutions aimed at harnessing scientific potential for societal development. The Academy bridges the gap between academic research and industrial application, offering programs that often span education, policy advisory, research, and professional development with a strong emphasis on sustainability and collaboration.
Here is an overview of the key schemes and programmes:
- Promotion of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI): Our core mandate is to promote science, technology, and innovation (STI) in Nigeria and other African countries aimed at driving socio-economic growth, strengthening national competitiveness, and fostering sustainable development. We bridge the gap between research and market-driven solutions to improve the quality of life and create wealth. Driving towards science, technology, and innovation (STI) is fueled by the need for sustainable economic growth, improved human well-being, and competitive advantage
- Youth Start-Up Entrepreneurship in STI:Empowering youth start-up entrepreneurship, focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) skills (AI, coding, data analysis) to drive economic growth, solve societal challenges like climate change, and foster entrepreneurship. By leveraging AI, biotechnology, and digital platforms, young entrepreneurs can create high-impact, scalable solutions to urgent societal challenges, fostering grassroots innovation and supporting the 4th Industrial Revolution.
- Early Career Scientists (ECRs): Supporting early career scientists (ECRs) to overcome critical career hurdles, providing target grants mentorship, and networking opportunities to foster independence and career stability. Key initiatives of the Academy include, but are not limited to, specialized, dedicated fellowship opportunities for women, international collaboration projects, and, furthermore, access to institutional, specialized, and/or tailored, specific skill-building workshops.
- Organizing Scientific Quiz Competitions:To promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) awareness, foster critical thinking, and encourage healthy competition among students. These services range from organizing local school events to managing large-scale regional or national competitions. These competitions are designed to improve knowledge retention, boost confidence, enhance public speaking, and encourage teamwork. They are increasingly used to prepare students for future careers in technology and innovation
- Capacity Building and Institutional Strengthening: The Academycreates conditions for the development of scientific schools, the training of highly qualified scientific workers, the advanced training of scientists and specialists, including in foreign scientific centres; participates in the training of specialists with higher education and enhances the qualifications of the teaching staff of institutions providing higher education. This is also includes scientific and training of highly qualified scientific personnel, educational institutions with the status of a university, as well as foundations.
- Fellowship Election:Rigorous, peer-reviewed election of top-tier scientists, technologists, and researchers based on their contributions to science and innovation.
- Awards for Excellence:Recognition of outstanding scientists through awards, promoting high standards in research.
- Scientific Conferences:Organizing annual scientific conferences to share knowledge and promote networking.
