OVERVIEW

International cooperation plays a leading role in the field of Nigerian science and technology as well as for new developments with added value. Considering this, AcIRSTD is committed to establishing lasting and profound bonds with the International scientific community.

The Academy is implementing collaboration agreements with foreign academies and other research centres. Together with its partners, it carries out projects important for research and development in Nigeria. The Academy supports and finances international mobility of scientists along the lines of bilateral agreements with other academies.

The AcIRSTD’s exchange programme is accessible to all scientific and educational institutions. It gives the Nigerian scientists an excellent opportunity to work at international research centres, to go abroad to gain knowledge and experience, and to receive foreign partners and carry out joint projects.

AcIRSTD encourages scientific and technologic exchange and cooperation within the country apart from promoting bonds with international scientific communities. Thus, it fosters joint research and development projects with academic and scientific institutions at national and international levels.

The Academy of Innovative Research, Science & Technological Development (AcIRSTD) has targeted the following for the nearest future:
⦁ To encourage young people to pursue careers in science.

⦁ To influence policymaking with the best scientific advice

⦁ To educate the public through informal means and to strengthen the science communication skills of the academies’ members

⦁ To promote an innovation-friendly environment and legislative framework

⦁ To engage in an open dialogue with various interest groups over sensitive and controversial issues, such as cloning, genetic modification, nanotechnology, technoethics and bioethics, environment, social engineering, etc.;

AcIRSTD engages in international cooperation through agreements with institutions in charge of scientific and technological promotion and with other prestigious academic and scientific organizations.

Cooperation with Science and Research Bodies

Cooperation with science and research bodies" refers to collaborative efforts between different scientific institutions, like universities, research centers, and government agencies, to pool resources, expertise, and knowledge to tackle complex research questions, advance scientific understanding, and develop innovative solutions to global challenges, often through joint research projects, data sharing, and personnel exchanges; essentially, working together to achieve scientific goals that might be difficult to accomplish individually. It involves forming trans-institutional and interdisciplinary teams, as well as adhering to international biosecurity laws and regulations to promote global scientific advancements.

With the growing complexity and rapid evolution of new technologies underscore the need for national and global collaboration in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) to address pressing global challenges and advance the Sustainable Development Goals. These efforts would help strengthen the national and international innovation systems of developing countries and guarantee that the global research and innovation agenda meets their interests and needs.

With the aim of global cooperation in science, technology and innovation for development, the Academy of Innovative Research, Science & Technological Development (AcIRSTD) pays much attention to the international cooperation activities in various fields. The AcIRSTD maintains and establishes the cooperation with national and international partners from different countries of the world in order to implement educational programs and modernize experimental equipment serving training and scientific research activities. Based on promoting each side’s advantages, a lot of national and international projects, cooperation programs will be implemented in the following fields:
⦁ Implementation of training cooperation and scientific research programs with local and foreign universities and organizations funded by financial sources.

⦁ Successful organization and co-organization of important international scientific workshops/conferences.

⦁ Exchange of lecturers and students with local and foreign universities in training activities, academic exchange as well as training undergraduates, masters and doctors.

Establishment of Networks among Scientists

AcIRSTD established networks among scientists, creates connections and collaborations between researchers across different institutions and disciplines, allowing them to share knowledge, expertise, resources, and ideas to tackle complex scientific problems more effectively through joint research projects, publications, and information exchange. Ultimately, the Academy accelerates scientific progress and innovation. This is achieved through attending conferences, joining professional societies, utilizing online platforms, and actively seeking out potential collaborators with complementary skills. 

AcIRSTD works hand-in-hand with cooperative science, universities and research bodies, as it also consolidates the views of researchers forming the core of Nigerian's scientific community in all aspects of engineering, basic clinical sciences, basic medical sciences, natural sciences, engineering, environmental sciences, humanities and social sciences. Moreover, AcIRSTD organizes national, regional and international conferences. These conferences seek to encourage more active collaboration with local scientists, while also contributing to promotion of academics. AcIRSTD also holds industry-academia-government summits to promote cooperation among these three sectors.
