Overview

The Academy of Innovative Research, Science & Technological Development (AcIRSTD) spearheads meaningful research with an ethical and developmental mandate. Through highly qualified researchers globally with different backgrounds, we help build the national foundations for directed and effective research with valuable outcomes. The impact of our research efforts ranges from solving local and global every-day problems to affecting public policy.

The strength of our Scientific Committee stands in the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach of the research activities. This allows us to reach important results which can create actual innovation and development. A great contribution to these activities comes from the AcIRSTD’s international cooperation with universities, research centres, companies, public authorities, etc. Actually, our researchers have established a strong team-working by reinforcing the intercultural exchanging of our research activities and by creating challenging synergies in joint actions and initiatives.

Moreover, in addition to our institutional research activities, we offer support in scientific projects and consulting activities in the framework of National and International proposals, especially in:

- designing and development of International, African and National project and research proposals

- designing and development of training and retraining courses for different ages and topics

- offering technical and scientific consulting to private and public organizations at the national and international level.

Institutionally, we have always implemented an open innovation strategy, welcoming the opportunity to collaborate at any stage. We have built valuable partnerships with industry, academic, and public sector players worldwide. As a research institution, we have always bridged the gap between our scientific research outputs and the needs of the wider society.

Science and Technology Engagement

The Academy of Innovative Research, Science & Technological Development (AcIRSTD)’s Science Engagement Sector has a crosscutting mandate that aims to strategically align all science engagement activities across the organisation. The Sector is also optimally positioned to contribute towards coordinated, consistent, and effective science communication and engagement policy and implementation that will make a meaningful contribution to bridging the gap between science and society.

We engage people nationwide to build awareness and develop capability and skills in science through our Inspiring Nigeria initiative and contribute to Nigeria Government’s vision to engage all Nigerians with science, technology and innovation. We also offer several programmes and activities for school pupils and their teachers, from undergraduate student placements.

Inspiring Nigeria science engagement activities connect with people nationwide to:

• enhance the focus on capability and skills
• build an awareness and appreciation of science
• celebrate the excitement of science and scientific discovery
• improve science communication skills.

We coordinate a national network of scientists to engage state communities in science. There is an inspiring Nigeria Scientists with local expertise and connections in each state and territory. They can help you identify national and states needs and give up-to-date information about science engagement in your area.

We work with communities, industry partners and hundreds of schools across the region to deliver science programmes, activities and events which build on our excellent scientific research and teaching.

The network seeks to:

•  provide greater engagement opportunities for groups that are underrepresented in STEM
•  achieve wider community engagement with sciences, including through major activities and events
•  improve participant experiences with science engagement activities
•  develop new engagement opportunities and activities
•  create sustainable change.

Science Awareness Creation

•  The Field of Medicine: AcIRSTD creates awareness in the field of medicine. The research aims at inventing new medicines, developing new treatments, studying risks, creating new medical technologies and equipment, etc. 
•  Technological Progress:  The Academy creates awareness in the technological progress, which has a significant impact on our lives. From advances in computers and mobile devices to advances in artificial intelligence and process automation, science allows us to create new technologies that make everyday life better.
•  Forecasting: AcIRSTD creates awareness to make it possible in improving the world around us. The Academy uses scientific models to identify possible dangerous trends in society and provide recommendations to overcome them.
•  Economic Problems: The Academy creates awareness in the field of economics is aimed at finding solutions to crisis situations and identifying promising areas for economic development. AcIRSTD Economic researchers analyse economic processes and determine the feasibility of using the experience of other countries in the process of economic development. Economic research at the Academy is one of the key tools in solving economic problems, contributing to sustainable economic development and improving living standards. Such work contributes to the creation of new technologies, methods and strategies that allow for more efficient use of resources and economic competitiveness.
• Social Problems: The Academy creates awareness on scientific sociological research is an important tool for understanding society and for solving social problems. Such research makes it possible to predict the consequences of certain decisions. AcIRSTD sociological research also helps to raise public awareness. 

The main areas of social research:

• Analysis and study of human behaviour and relationships between people. 
• Study of the interaction between people in various spheres of society in order to obtain new knowledge.
• Explanation of contradictions or peculiarities of functioning of different social groups
• Forecasting the development of social processes
• Practical implementation of social changes.
• Establishing patterns of social change using sociological theories and methods.
