The Distance Learning Education (DLE) of the Academy of Innovative Research, Science & Technological Development (AcIRSTD) summarises the main process of establishing open learning and distance education systems in Africa through our global alliances. DLE focuses on what has not worked well in the education system in Nigeria and indeed Africa as a continent; to keep pace with the rest of the world in applying new and enhanced strategies for human resource development.
The DLE programme identifies the common issues and challenges facing education practitioners in Africa, and thus develops appropriate strategies and policies for open learning and distance education at the national, regional state, local and international levels.
The desire to study for high quality, national and internationally recognized programmes is certainly growing at an almost exponential rate all over the world. Our partners’ distance learning programmes enable students to seek recognized qualifications offered by these universities, though delivered locally.
Our local universities build in face-to-face components such as bringing dispersed students in for occasional tutored group meetings. Conversely, the central provider send travelling tutors to the learners at the same time enter into agreements with AcIRSTD as a education support.
Every year, over a million students from all over the world choose to study for a US, UK degrees to enhance their careers and knowledge. Our global universities offer opportunity to study for US, UK degrees outside of the US/UK through part-time study, distance and online learning. AcIRSTD Distance Education Policy (DEP) aims to:
- Promote, encourage and support the orderly development of distance education and associated technologies in Nigeria and the continent of Africa
- Enhance the effectiveness of distance education at minimal economic and social costs
- Outline means of improving education and training facilities to overcome the scarcity of skilled personnel
- Outline the application priorities in consonance with national development plans
- Ensure the development of an infrastructure for efficient communication, the establishment of mechanisms for the coordination and effective management of information and communications technologies of Africa.
Academic Integrity Policy
We hold our students to high standards of academic integrity and will not tolerate acts of falsification, misrepresentation, or deception. Such acts of intellectual dishonesty include, but are not limited to, cheating, plagiarism, fabricating data or citations, stealing examinations, using instructor editions of textbooks without authorization, taking an exam for another, using technology to disseminate exam questions and answers, tampering with the academic work of another student, facilitating other students’ acts of academic dishonesty, and resubmitting work completed in another course (with the exception of compiling previous coursework, if approved, into a Directed Research Project).

Academic Advising
Each academic programme has a specific administrator available to counsel students on any aspect of the programmes. AcIRSTD provides advice regarding course work, waivers, and transfers, in addition to general programme planning and information.
What Student Study
There are a wide variety of programmes available for you to choose from including certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate and post doctoral degree as well as MBA and DBA programmes. The choice available will vary depending on which state or country education you choose.
The Kind of Support AcIRSTD Provided
Part-time and flexible study enables you to combine your studies with work and other commitments. The level of support for these programmes varies significantly and it is important to choose the level of support that best meets your needs. You may probably have some experience of learning and what learning style works for you. Part-time study requires you to study while at work, home or on a journey. It’s also requires attend seminars and workshop regularly– usually at the weekend or in the evening.
Entrance and Applications
Entrance requirements vary depending the qualification. Entry requirements are there to ensure that you will be able to manage your studies successfully.
The final award and is it recognition
Qualifications from national and global partners are of the same academic standard wherever they are delivered. Our partnered universities/colleges are responsible for ensuring that programmes delivered nationally and internationally meet the same high quality standards as if they were delivered in the homes campuses.
On successful completion of your programme, you will receive a degree certificate and transcript. The degree certificate provides details of your degree. The transcript provides more detailed information on what you have studied as well as where and how you have studied it. Together the degree certificate and transcript provide all of the information that an employer or professional body might require on your qualification.
Application for Admission Information
Applications are evaluated only after all the necessary information and materials have been received by AcIRSTD. Completed files will be processed and sent to our national or global university and evaluated by the admissions office and other designated individuals. Applicants will be notified of the admission decision by mail, within four weeks of receipt of transcripts and completion of the file. Full consideration cannot be assured to applicants who fail to meet application deadlines.
Minimum Requirements for Admission or Readmission
A completed application form submitted to AcIRSTD by the deadline, including the nonrefundable application fee of N25, 000 and processing fee of N100, 000.
Credit passes in five Ordinary Level Subjects in Senior School Certificate Education / West African School Certificate Education / General Certificate of Education / National Examination Council or their equivalent including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and other two relevant subjects.
A satisfactory academic record. Each applicant must furnish a complete chronological record of educational institutions previously attended. Official transcripts must be submitted in accordance with the instructions on the application. Failure to declare attendance at another institution could cause invalidation of admission and any credits or degrees earned.
A satisfactory conduct record.
The application must be filed for a specific term of entry and will be considered for that term ONLY. Applicants who want to change their term of entry should contact the Office of Admissions. Any approval for admission is valid ONLY for the term specified in the admission notice.
Student Classifications
- Students entering our partner universities will be classified as follows:
Beginning freshmen: Students who have earned fewer than 12 semester hours following graduation from high school. - Undergraduate Transfers: Students who have earned at least 12 semester hours following graduation from high school and have not received a bachelor’s degree.
- Graduate Students: Students, who have earned a recognized baccalaureate, graduate or professional degree from an accredited college or university, or an international equivalent based on a four-year curriculum.
- Post baccalaureate Students: Students who have received a baccalaureate degree (BA or B.Sc) from an accredited institution who are not applying to graduate school. Our partner universities have limited space available for post baccalaureate studies.

Academic programmes through distance/online mode of study leading to a bachelor’s, master’s, Ph.D. or professional degree consists of majors, minors, certificates, concentrations, and specializations. These are combinations of courses and related activities organized for the achievement of specific learning outcomes as defined by our national and international universities and colleges.
All degree programmes require that a minimum number of semester credit hours be earned, as referenced in the official bulletins of by our national and international universities and colleges that are produced each academic year.
* Major: A major is main specialization of a student – a comprehensive course of study in a given discipline at the undergraduate level. A m-inimum of 30-35 semester credit hours must be earned in the major.
- Minor: A minor is a secondary specialization of a student – a course of study in a discipline or interdisciplinary group at the undergraduate level that is other than the student’s major area of study. A minimum of 15-18 semester credit hours must be earned in the minor.
- Dual degree: a formal agreement where two degrees are conferred simultaneously from two institutions (or colleges/schools within a university), some courses/credits taken at both institutions/colleges/schools apply to both degrees and two diplomas are produced, one for each degree.
- Joint degree: a formal agreement where one degree is conferred from two institutions (or colleges/schools within a university), some courses/credits taken at both institutions/colleges/schools apply to the degree and both institutions/college/school are listed on a single diploma.
